Corey Lydstone joins the AutoSuccess Executive Spotlight

Our co-founder and CEO Corey Lydstone sat down with host Brian Ankney on the AutoSuccess Executive Spotlight to talk about what happens when AI starts shopping for cars, and how dealers can get ready for it.

Here is what the conversation covered.

Why AI gets dealerships wrong today

When a consumer asks an AI about a dealership, the AI does its best with what it has. Usually that means scraped websites, stale data, and third-party marketplaces. The result is answers built on information that might be days old, with links that send shoppers somewhere other than the dealership itself.

Bots are now among the biggest visitors to dealer websites. It is not just Google anymore. ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok all send crawlers to scrape inventory on their own schedules. What they capture is a snapshot, not the truth. That gap is why AI so often misrepresents inventory, hours, and how a store actually operates.

MCP: a second front door for AI agents

Corey walked through MCP, the Model Context Protocol created by Anthropic and now adopted as a standard by every major AI platform. Instead of forcing AI to scrape a website, an MCP server lets AI agents ask the dealership directly. It sits on the dealer's own domain and exposes real-time inventory, vehicle details, and store information in a structured way.

The dealership website remains the front door for humans. The MCP server is the front door for AI agents. And it is a two-way street. AI can not only read information, it can take action, like booking a service appointment on a consumer's behalf.

What car shopping looks like inside AI

Run a search for a third row SUV on a traditional marketplace and you get 125 results sorted by who paid the most. Run the same search inside an AI tool and you get five, with a clear explanation of why each one fits. The AI interviews the shopper, narrows the options, and explains pricing differences instead of making people dig through pages of listings.

That shifts power to the consumer, and to the dealer. When a dealer's MCP server passes in reconditioning data, Carfax reports, and store information, the AI can explain why this Camry with new tires and brakes is worth more than the cheaper one down the street. The best dealers win on the merits.

SEO becomes AEO, and transactional intent matters most

Research questions like "what is the best third row SUV" are going zero-click. Publishers lose that traffic. But AI search opens a new surface for dealers: transactional intent. AI recommends vehicles and dealerships in the same sentence, including how each store operates.

Corey's advice is practical. Fix your about us page. Add real FAQs. Talk about your people and your processes. Respond to reviews, because AI reads them. And make sure what your website says matches reality, because AI will repeat whatever it finds there.

What dealers should do now

Start using AI tools. Ask ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini about your dealership and see whether you like the answers. Then get the infrastructure in place.

We deploy MCP servers for dealers for free, on their own domain, and dealers do not pay until AI actually starts using it. Our goal is to get this infrastructure everywhere as fast as possible, the same way Stripe became the invisible layer behind online payments. We are building the transaction layer for how car shopping happens inside AI.
